Hole in the Wall Photo spot and hike guide (Port Alberni, BC)

Hole In The Wall Port Alberni

The Hole in the Wall is a cute little waterfall that you can find by taking a short walk down to Rogers Creek. This is a very unique man made waterfall that flows through a wall of volcanic shale into the creek, that used to act as a passage way for the city’s main water reservoir.  Port Alberni is on the way to Tofino and the hole in the wall is a great spot to stop and stretch the legs. If the light is right you can take some great pictures. We were here on a rainy day which is not great for photos but you get to see more water flow through the hole. So don’t count it out if its not amazing outside. If you are looking for another unique westcoast hike the Cox Bay Beach lookout is also super worthwhile. Check out our hike guide here.

It did not used to be very well known but it is now pretty main stream (haha) and there is even signage along the route. It is only about a 30-40 minute round trip and there is about 100m or so of elevation gain on the way back to your car.

Once you take the time to enjoy the waterfall you can keep walking to your left and there is a little area with several inukshuks that is pretty cool as well.

Hole In The Wall Port Alberni Directions

The Hole in the Wallis located in Port Alberni, and the parking area is right across the street from Coombs Country Candy on Hwy 4. This store is right on the left as you are coming from Nanaimo, and can loop around to park on the other side of the highway right in front of the trailhead. If you can see Coombs country candy on the way into Port Alberni, you are in the right spot! You can find the Hole In The Wall trailhead start on google maps now and I have attached the exact location at the below!

There is only a couple turns on the trail getting to the waterfall, but it is pretty well marked. Every area you turn will have a “Hole in the Wall” little sign, and I have taken pictures below to make it easier to navigate.
