Tips on Travelling with a Drone
Travelling with a drone is a great way to get amazing footage of beautiful locations. Aerial views of certain spots has really been a game changer for our video creations and photography. However, travelling with a drone can be a bit difficult due to rules and regulations in diffferent countries. It also means that you are travelling with more weight and they are not the cheapest toys. We have written this to let you know the best drone to travel with, the extra accessories you will need for the drone, and tips when travelling to new destinations.
Check the laws and rules at your travel destination
Each country has its own laws for the use of unmanned aircraft like drones. It is not legal to fly a drone everywhere and some countries ban drones altogether. There are even some countries where you will get jail time for even bringing in a drone!! We read about this when we were planning on going to Uzbekistan.
You should always check the laws at your travel destination. Some countries do not have any rules at all and you can bring it in with no hassle. However, some countries you need to apply for permits, so check in advance. Many countries in the Middle East do not allow drones at all.
NOTE: Drone laws can change monthly. Make sure to visit the official government website of the country you plan to visit and ensure it’s allowed to fly. They are usually pretty clear about the drone regulations and how you can use them.
We also like to check facebook groups on drones, as this will let you know travellers firsthand experiences.
Best Travel Drone
There are so many type of drones these days. The best drone to travel with in our opinion is the DJI Mini 3 Pro. When a drone is under 250 grams, a lot of rules do not apply, so it is the easiest one to get into most countries.
Drone Accessories
There are alot of drone accessories these days. We like to keep things light so these are our go to accessories. We like to have an extra battery and a large SD card for storage. Drone landing gear is also important because there are alot of spots that need a solid area for landing and take off. A shard case and a fire case for flying are also great ideas to keep it safe.
