The Best Views In Canmore Hiking Ha Ling Peak

I have done this hike a couple times, but it was definitely my favourite hike in the Rockies. It is a fairly moderate hike, but it is a great workout, since it is all uphill. You can spot this mountain in the town of Canmore, and it is super cool to say that you have been to the top because it LOOKS like it is tough.

Ha Ling Peak Hike Info
- Difficulty – moderate steep and exposed scramble in sections
- Distance – 8kms round trip
- Time Required – 4-5 hours
- Elevation Gain – 700m
- Max Altitude – 2400m
- Hike Style – part scramble
You cannot get lost on this trail, it is pretty busy and it is very well marked. You start off in the trees, but once you get past the treeline it become a bit of a scramble with some loose rock. The last 100m of elevation is pretty brutal and steep, but it is definitely worth the hike for the views. There is a huge cliff once you reach the summit, and it gives amazing views of Canmore and the Rockies.
The summit is pretty special because it is a prominent ridge with great views of the valley and surrounding mountain. It took us about 2 hours to reach the top and 3.5 for the whole trip. You will also find several cute little chipmunks at the top that are very prone to people. In fact, they would come right up to us and eat our trail mix right out of our hands.

This hike was really special to me because it was the first mountain I climbed in the Rockies. My soon to be boyfriend took my up, and it was challenging but really rewarding.
The second time I did this hike I took one of my best friends Krista up when she was visiting from Halifax. The altitude almost killed her, but she made it nonetheless!
Ha Ling Peak Directions
From the parking lot go across the road and up the up the gravel road, where you will cross the canal. At this point you will see a sign and a small building where the trailhead starts.
Driving directions are fairly easy, you just drive past the Canmore Nordic Centre and follow the road until you see the parking lot sign for Ha Ling. The parking lot is fairly busy and easy to spot from the road.
