Costa Rica is an absolute bucket list destination and one of our favorite countries in Central America. We have visited several times and these are some of the spots that made us stop and go wow. If you are into photography these spots are 100% Instagram worthy so get your camera ready. Make sure to check out our other Costa Rica guides! to help plan your trip.

Our Favourite Bucket List Locations In Costa Rica

Tabacon Hot Springs

This is a resort but you don’t need to stay at the resort to visit, day passes are 99$. The resort is world class luxury but it is priced accordingly, to book overnight go here!

Tabacon springs is world famous for good reason. The gardens, spa and pools are incredible. Book in advance for day passes to avoid disappointment.

La Fortuna Falls

Right outside of La Fortuna these falls are easy to get to and well worth the entrance fee. Arrive early to avoid the crows the ease of access means it gets quite busy.

La Fortuna Cloud Forest (hanging bridges)

Whether you chose Fortuna hanging bridges or Monteverde you won’t be disappointed. Mistico nature park in La Fortuna was one of our favourite attractions in Costa Rica and well worth the entrance fee. We found it to be busy but we liked the look of the bridges more than Monteverde.

If you are into animals Monteverde has guided walks with spotters you can book here. Being Costa Rica there is also a crazy long zipline and Tarzan swing that looked nuts.

Rio Celeste waterfall

One of our favourite falls in Costa Rica. Best visited between La Fortuna and Liberia. Arrive early to beat the crowds. The water here has got to be the bluest in the world. Rio Celeste is a highlight on any Costa Rica Itinerary. Check out the whole detailed guide with hidden spots here!

Parque Nacional Volcan Tenorio

If you walk right just before you get to the falls you can hike to the source of the Rio Celeste river. You can actually see the rivers mixing and changing colour here to this beautiful bright blue. If you don’t have a rental car this is a good tour option for you.

Montana del Fuego Springs

We stayed at Montana del Fuego in La Fortuna and had these amazing springs in our hotel. The hotel was all inclusive and we loved the central location. To check out the hotel and book here is the link. Sometimes closer to there are some fabulous deals.

Check out a little video we made of the hot springs and hotel below.

Santa Teresa Beach

The entire town of Santa Teresa is a vibe. Santa Teresa beach is an Iconic spot to chill and watch the surfers and sunset.

Santa Teresa is A little bit busy but in a good way with lots of nightlife a strong surf vibe and countless bars. Food does get a little bit pricy here so I would recommend getting a place with a kitchen. Here is our Central surf and stay with kitchen and included breakfast we loved.

Mal Pais Tide Pools (Natural Hot Tubs)

Just south of Santa Teresa, you can find these tide pools that are magical at sunset. They were not as warm as we liked towards sunset time but they were well worth the view. If you want the full hot tub experience go towards mid day.

Blue falls of Costa Rica

7 amazing waterfalls in the Bajos Del Toro area north of San Jose. These are some of the most amazing waterfalls I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of waterfalls. This area is 100% worth the detour to add to any itinerary. We wrote a whole guide on these guys, including how to get there, what to see, and how much time you need here.

Vuelta Del Canon

Another beautiful 11km jungle hike to this hidden waterfall in Bajos Del Toro. If crowds aren’t your thing you will love this jungle hike to hidden falls in Costa. For directions, hike length and how to check the guide out here.
