When you embark on any hike or trek, a list will be your bestfriend! I never do any trek without checking my gear list, so I have wrote out exactly what I packed!
This list is perfect for a 10-20 day hike in the mountains in Nepal, and is what I packed for my EBC and Gokyo 14 day trip.
If you do not have everything with you, you can pretty much buy or rent anything in Kathmandu to Lukla. Check out my post on getting gear in Nepal.
Here is a complete list of what I packed and I added what I wish I had!
Hiking Essentials
- Sleeping bag (atleast a zero bag)
- Backpack (45 liter)
- Packing cube and toiletry bag (organization)
- Polarized Sunglasses
- Sunglasses
- Trekking pole (I just use one)
- Water bottle (for in the huts)
- Water bladder (I like to have a 2L in my trekking bag)
- Chlorine tabs or drops (just ask for cold water in the huts and treat your own. This saved us a lot of money on water in the huts and reduced plastic waste and energy from boiling water)
- Headlamp
- Basic First aid kit and medications (essentials)
- Advil, Benadryl, cough meds, prescription meds, etc.
- antibiotics
- bandaids, medical tape, alcohol rubs
- diamox (for altitude)
- Tweezers/needle
- Optional
- Sleeping bag liner
- Crampons
- Clothes/Shoes
- Goretex Trail runners (or hiking boots, definitely a personal decision)
- Slides/sandals for the teahouses (some teahouses provide them too)
- Down jacket
- Rain jacket
- Base layers (merino wool if possible)
- I wore my baselayers in the teahouse and for sleeping
- Trekking pants
- Leggings
- Dry fit shirts (2)
- Underwear/boxers (As a girl, I packed underwear for everyday to avoid laundry)
- Fleece
- Sports bra (2)
- Trekking socks (2)
- Thick socks for teahouse
- Hat
- Gloves
- Neck/face buff
- Toque
- Toiletries
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Floss
- Face sunscreen & body sunscreen
- Night cream
- Body lotion
- Nail clippers
- Small hairbrush
- Face cleansing wipes
- Toilet paper
- Wet wipes (showers are expensive and the pipes are usually frozen higher up)
- Chapstick
- Electronics
- Phone
- Chargers and adapter
- Ereader
- Camera (if different from phone)
- GPS watch
- Snacks
- Granola/protein bars
- Trail mix
- Chocolate
- Dried fruit
